Google has launched SMS Channels at the beginning of this month and till now, this new medium of content distribution has proven to be very popular among mobile phone users in India who prefer to receive updates via SMS messages compared to email or RSS feeds. We do.

To give you an example, now more people have been subscribed to digital inspiration via SMS compared to Google Desktop, although the SMS option has been for less than two weeks only.

Although Google is a small issue with SMS channels – it only sends the title of the story as a SMS message, so web consumers have no way to link that SMS message with the actual article on the web. Check out this real example:

Add links to Google SMS text messages

If you are facing the same problem and want to add permalink to your Google SMS messages, then here is a simple operation as suggested by Nikhil of MediaNews:

  1. Create a free Twitter account.
  2. Link your main blog feed to this new twitter account – see sample.
  3. Copy the RSS feed address of your Twitter account – This can be easily obtained from the HTML source of your Twitter page.

<Link rel = “optional” type = “apps / rss + xml” title = “Techvilas”

href = “http://twitter.com/statuses/user_timeline/Id.rss” />

  1. Go to your Google SMS channel page and replace the blog feed with Twitter feed.

Done.

TwitterFed will automatically add a short URL to each post before tweeting and it will be broadcast to all your SMS subscribers.

You can select bit.ly instead of tinyurl.com (from twitterfeed settings) because past lets you track clicks so that there is good information about your stuff that is popular with your sms subscribers.
