Google India has just launched a free SMS service called Google SMS Channel, which allows you to subscribe to other types of information like horoscope, jokes, stocks or even cricket scores through SMS alerts, blog updates and SMS text messages.

Google SMS Channels, which are very common with SMS chats, are also free for content publishers as well as mobile phone users who subscribe to text updates via SMS.
Family or friends can create private SMS groups on Google SMS Channels and can stay in touch via SMS without paying any fees to their mobile carrier.

Another interesting part – You do not really need a mobile phone to send an SMS to your group because Google has an option in SMS channels that can write and send SMS messages through the web. It supports English, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada.
The Google SMS channel currently works with only India’s phone numbers but they are “working towards making this service available at international numbers”.
